Adding custom drivers in scripting OS deployment

  • 1.  Adding custom drivers in scripting OS deployment

    Posted Jan 17, 2012 01:11 AM

    Hi,

I am doing scripting OS deployment with custom drivers injected to my OS. The steps I am using are as follows:

    1) Added the custom drivers using Drivers Management.

    2) Created preboot PXE configuration.

    3) Define the PXE server configuration.

    4) Created some jobs for my deployment in the following order:

        (i) Reboot to WinPE

        (ii) Erase disk

        (iii) Partion disk

        (iv) Install Windows OS

when I run these jobs my virtual machine in which I want to deploy OS using PXE boot works fine. However, after the OS installation I can see all the drivers installed in my new machine but, I can't see my custom drivers added into it.

Please let me know, if I am missing something.

I am using Altiris DS 7.1

    Thanks

    Aditya

    Hi,

Did you miss writing the entire version or is it 7.1 only that you are using? The latest release of DS is 7.1SP2.

    Hi,

Have you enabled the 'Deploy Anywhere' option in the Scrited OS Install task , because it is not enabled by default, make sure you have enabled this option.

    Hi,

I am using 7.1.8280 SP1, I am not sure where to find that Deploy Anywhere option to enable. Can you please tell me the exact path for this.

    Thanks

    Hi,

In the install windows OS task there is one option "Install drivers from driver database  during OS installation", I have checked this option.

    Thanks

I have done the similar kind of stuff:

You are going right here Aditya by checking that particular option. However, please tell me to what device you have connected or have installed in the client machine for which you are looking for the custom driver to be applied. Having said this, what holds 100% true is that only matching drivers gets copied and applied.

    Aditya,

Not sure this will answer the problem but do give this a shot.

Here's the documentation for DS. See if this can help. Do post back.

    Thanks

    Thanks

I just notices that when there is an intital PXE boot is running on my virtual machine I can see that my custom drivers are installed, I have checked through command prompt. However, once the OS is installed in it I can not see the drivers in it.

    Thanks

    Aditya,

Selected drivers during SOI are copied in c:\DeployAnywhere\driver_list.txt

and stored in c:\drivers folder. You could perhaps check that.

    Thanks

Sam, there is no deployanwhere folder and driverfolder in my C drive :(

I am attaching the screenshot of c drive of both the machine where Altiris is installed and where I want to deploy the custom OS

    Thanks

    Aditya,

Can you send me the following files for us to check this in detail:

    1. unattended.xml from x:\
    2. ClientSOI.log from x:\program files\Altiris\Altiris agent\logs.
    3. Drivers_list.txt from x drive.

Lets see if we can help you sort this problem out:)

Sam, I am only able to get unattended.xm and that too I got it from Altiris log viewer. Sorry, I am not sure how to get the other files from the virtual machine where I am deploying OS because  when I reboot the VM using winpe on the command prompt I can see a log file is created at the following location  x:\program files\Altiris\Altiris agent\logs. but don't know how to read it and copy it at my local machine. If you know please let me know, I will try it out at my end. Also, there is not Drivers_list file X drive :(

I am attaching the unattend.xml for your reference.

    Thanks

    Aditya
