We have a small LAN of about 10 Windows machines and recently purchased AV Corporate Edition (10 Licenses). There is now one Server machine servicing 9 workstations.

We now need to add a few computers and I can't for the life of me figure out how to purchase additional license keys. I thought I could just purchase 3 more but, OK, a minimum of 5 seems reasonable; however, when navigating through the purchase options on the Symantec site I see a 5-user Business Pack of AV 10.2 for $180 (which seems only to be available through physically shipping the box) and a 5-user BP of AV Corporate Edition for about $230, available online. Which is the right one and why the difference in price? I'm getting a headache (I know I could pick up the phone but I HATE talking to people :)).

What would be the least cost (i.e. no support option) way of acquiring 3-5 additional AV Corp. Edition licenses online?

    Thanks for any info.

A very common mistake I see with customers in purchasing licenses, is there is a difference between Symantec AntiVirus Small Business Edition and Corporate Edition:

Small Business Edition -> Uses an *.SLF file for activation

Corporate Edition -> Does NOT use an *.SLF for activation

Need to determine which version you have and purchase the appropriate additional licenses, cannot mix and match.

Sounds like you would need to get the 5 user BP of Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition

There is no low-cost {i.e. no support option}. To beeligible to download virus definitions, you must have a current support contract

As for the price difference, I do not know the reason. You are not required to go through the Symantec Store to purchase licenses.

A very popular option for small businesses is Software House International: http://www.shi.com

I always recommend shopping around for the best price

    NicholasC:

I DO use an SLF file for licensing/activation and my License Certificate reads: "Symantec Antivirus 10.2 BNDL Business Pack". So I guess it's not Corporate. :)

Hopefully the additional info you provided will help me acquire the necessary licenses.

Thanks very much for taking the time to help me out.
