Adding media to media sets

Created: 05 Sep 2005 • Updated: 21 May 2010 | 3 comments

This is a bonehead simple question: How does one add individual tapes to a given media set? In most of the small systems I manage, there are individual tape drive without robotic features. Each site has several tapes. From time to time it is necessary to replace these, or use tapes from a former (now defunct) drive. How do I add the existing or new tapes to a media set constructed on the new installation of BE? If I simply place an old tape in the drive when a job is to run, I will often get prompts that indicate that the tape cannot be written to b/c it's overwrite or append periods conflict with those of the media set the job is writing to. I suspect the answer is very simple and obvious, but I just don't get it. TIA.

The first time that you (re)use a tape from another system, relabel the tape (even if you use the same name). This will place the volume in the scratch set, and when the next job runs, the volume will be moved to whatever media set the job uses.Message was edited by:
