Admin quit, now I'm the backup guy. Help needed

This issue has been solved. See solution.

Our senior net admin quit and he was the only one who knew about our back exec setup. I was now given the duties and have never done anything in the backup realm before. Can anyone point me in the right way of basics and how discover how our backup enviroment is currently setup?

I just downloaded the admin guide for Backup Exec 2012, what else can I do to ensure the success of this new role? Thanks to any help and guidance in advance.

Does Backup Exec currently have jobs configured or is this a fresh install?

What type of files are you backing up?

The Admin Guide is a very good reference and place to start.  You should check out the following link for valuable guides as well, especially the Hardware and Software Compatibility lists:   http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH179977

Hope this is helpful

Thanks for the reply, that link has a lot of good information.

I'm taking over an existing enviroment. ESXi for VM's, MS server 2008/2012, and a rather large amount of development servers. It a 400 employee tech business. Right now it looks like we are doing tape incremental backups, but tomorrow we meet to run down what anyone may know. I've only been here since May so I've got some work ahead of me. I'm glad to learn something new though.
