Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended deployment issue

Liquid's picture

I have a question for others out there using Altiris to deploy software to their user bases. We have recently pruchased a copy of Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended, and I have been trying to create a RIP to deploy it to our 50+ users here at this facility. We have pruchased 50 seats of the software licence which should cover everyone since not every single person here needs to use the software.

My issue that I am experiancing is when I go create the rip, and finally deploy it to a test machine or any others for that matter. It promts for the CD key to be renetered in order for the user to use the software. I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue when trying to deploy this software to their users? I have scoured the Adobe forums for teh past week to two weeks in order to find a solution to this issue.

Any help or insite will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much.

DON'T USE RIPS!

Don't do RIPS for Adobe Acrobat, or any other software for that matter. RapidInstall is not supported, and snapshot technologies are not the best way to package Adobe products.

Adobe have their own tool called the Installshield Tuner for Adobe - use that. Check their site for details.

Download

The Adobe Installer Transform Tool is definitely the tool to use to customize the install and prep it for deployment. You can download the tool from the link below.

I think I might have gotten it.

Not 100% sure untill I do some testing on some machines other then the loaner(s) that I have. From what I have seen I haven't gotten the error that iw as getting before. All I did was use the Bootstrap installation that was on the disk. Logged onto the box as admin, and used that. So far no warnings or errors. The only things that I have seen, and its been only once, and that was when I installed it on one of the loaners it installed fine. Then I went and logged onto it with my own creds, and I got a registration warning which I told it to never show again since the product was already registered. The Adobe Printer never showed up in the Printers and Faxes. Like I said this is the first time I've seen it do that since the inital test. I will tweak it, and test it on some other systems to be sure.

I will keep you informed as to whether that was a fluke, or its a major issue.
