Adobe Reader 10.0.1 protected mode problems with SEP11?

  • 1.  Adobe Reader 10.0.1 protected mode problems with SEP11?

    Posted Feb 10, 2011 09:11 AM

I am running SEP 11 RU6mp2, Win7 x64, win2003r3x64, win2008r2x64.  In all three cases reader 10.0.0 works without problems, but reader 10.0.1 will not open in protected mode.  My home machine (Nortin Internet  Security (latest version/update) Win7x64 has no problems with tne new reader.  Has anyone else seen this?

Are you using an application and device control policy?

if so, disable the policy and try again,

The 2 servers are av/as only.  The Win7 machine is 64-bit and there is no application and device control available for 64-bit os yet (another sore point).

Have you disabled SEP to determine if that is causing the issue?

Our situation is just the opposite.  We had issues with 10.0.0, but the new 10.0.1 is working without issue in protected mode.

I have 10.0.1 with protected mode ON and SEP RU6 MP2 and it opens for me just fine.  I run Win 7 Pro 32bit.

Since the win2008 server is for testing, I uninstalled sep11, uninstalled adobe reader, reinstalled reader, and reinstalled sep11.  Protected mode is working now.  I haaven't been able to do this on my Win7x64 machine yet.  The adobe forum site has been down today - I was hoping to find some answers there.

My problem is that 10.0.0 works and 10.0.1 does not work in protected mode.  On my Windows 7 machine, even if I disable AV, PTP, and NTP AND run SMC -stop,  the updated reader will not open in protected mode.  I justed updated reader 10.0.0 to 10.0.1 on another win7 x64 machine with similar software config and it exhibits the same problems.  I am not sure that this is a SEP-related problem, and the adobe forums are still offline so I don't know if there are any related posts there.

Remove SEP completely. Then try again. If it still doesn't work then SEP is not the issue.

That will be the test when I have the time to shut down a production workstation.  I was never sure that this is an SEP issue.

Just Un-install NTP to check if it resolves the issue.

I uninstalled SEP11 completely (add/remove programs) from my Win7x64 machine, and the protected mode problem was still there.

After I reinstalled SEP11, I determined that reader 10 would work properly with a different (local administrator) user profile on that machine.  I am now looking at possible problems related to roaming profiles and redirected application data folders.  Adobe will fix this eventually, but someone with a full version of acrobat will need to make the support calls.

The strange thing is that everything worked with version 10.0.0.
