'Advanced settings' link in sepm console doesn't work - java client

Created: 01 Feb 2013 | 10 comments

currently running ru1mp1 on the server, ru2 for the client.  Everything in the console works fine, except within reports and monitors, when you click on the 'Advanced settings' hyperlink, nothing happens.  It is an important part of daily work to be able to drill down into the logs to find specific information.

the webclient works perfectly.  the issue is completely within the java client.  We have unloaded and reloaded java, a version that is known to work.  We have unloaded / cleanwiped, the sep client and reinstalled.

the scm-ui log appears to be logging just as any other admins would be.

This issue is specific to only one computer.  the rest of the team seem to function fine, so the issue isn't with the server.

Is there anything on the client machine to check and verify to gain this functionality back?  is there any hooks into IE, jdesktop, php.....?  just wondering if there is a relation between the hyperlink within the java console that isn't working.

thanks

Are you using the remote console or the logged in locally? What's the OS version?

Check this

Support for Java 7 and above.

We are currently running win7, and java 1.6.0.31, which is pulled from the sepm upon first login.

just to be clear, the steps used are from the browser (ie8), to https://servername:8443, then selecting the 'download and login' option.  We have 7 admins, and it works for 6 of them all running the same OS and using the same process.

thanks

hi,

Try this

configure the Java console to not use a proxy:

  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel, double-click Java.
  3. In the Java Control Panel, on the General tab, click Network Settings.
  4. In the Network Settings dialog box, click Direct Connection.
  5. Click OK.
  6. In the Java Control Panel, click OK

Or

To clear the Java cache

  1. Click Start > Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Java.
  3. On the General tab, under Temporary Internet Files, click Settings.
  4. Click Delete Files.
  5. Make sure all boxes are checked, and click OK.
  6. Click OK to close the dialog boxes

Thanks In Advance

nope, still doesn't work.  i am thinking there must be something else within java that doesn't work.  i know it hooks into a php session on the server.  it uses ieembed.exe on the client.  is there a set of files that can be re-registered that could help?

thanks

uninstall/reinstall of what?  we have uninstalled on the client, java and sep.  the sepm console works for all the other admins.  what are you suggesting we uninstall and reinstall

Java is what I meant

The SEP client has nothing to do with this. As you already suggested it is with Java.

In my experience, clearing the cache has fixed the issue. Or at the very least reinstall Java. The only time I've seen this is when an unsupported version of java was being used.

In your case it sounds like you already went thru all of this.

Hopefully someone else can chime in with a fix.

yup, i think we are leaning towards a re-imaging of the device.  since it is exclusive to only one box.....

thanks everyone
