Advice on upgrading from BE 12.5

Created: 25 May 2010 | 2 comments

We are running Backup Exec 12.5 on a server running Windows Server 2003 x86 Standard Edition.  We backup a bunch of Windows servers, some x86 and some x64.  We also backup Exchange 2003 and 2007 and MOSS 2007 and WSS 3.0.

We have a bunch of initiatives in IT that include creating an employee portal using SharePoint 2010, consolidating four forests into one, and upgrading to Exchange 2010.  Exchange 2010 may be implemented by the end of July, or the latest September and the SharePoint 2010 will be live by September.

What things do I need to change so I can successfully backup the new environment, when it arrives or will my current software continue to work?

To backup exchange 2010 you definately need the BE 2010 as 12.5 is not compatible with Exchange 2010. As far as Share Point 2010 is concerned it is not in the SCL of BE12.5 as well as BE 2010. So that means Symantec has not tested the share point 2010 as yet with BE 2010 and will not be supported by Symante till now.
Here is the SCL for your reference:
