How do I remove Adware.gen?  I ran a virus scan and it directed me to your website.  Why doesn't my scan automatically remore this virus?

Hi Helen, can u tell us

 Hi Helen,

can u tell us details of the infection? Filenames where the virus was detected?

You can try these
Delete content of temp directory, clear browser history. Do a full system scan in safe mode.

When the scan has detected

When the scan has detected this adware it would have taken some action against it.When you click on the threat name it direct you to symanec's site so that you can have more information about that threat.

same issue with adware.gen

I'm having the same issue.  I do a full system scan every week and for about two months now that one virus is still there.  It will not quarantine or delent and I try to click on manual removal and that doesn't work.  The filename is upgrade.exe.  I've done a search of my computer for the locationof the upgrade.exe which is located in the folder content.ie5.  I've deleted this folder and it still is not fixed.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  It's frustrating to pay for this Norton and it doesn't quarantine or delete.

So that means you delete it

So that means you delete it and it comes back again..
well..that means its either coming from a website that you visit or..
there is a Add-In loaded in your browser which is downloading this file.
Reset you IE--tools- internet options-advanced-Reset.
Clear all your temp folder
%temp% and c:\windows\temp

Same Problem removing adware.gen

I complete a scan and it identifies adware.gen but it will not remove it.  The instructions on your site for removal of this threat does not work.  How do you permanently get rid of it?

 I'm still having the same

I'm still having the same issue.  Yesterday I deleted Live Messenger and disabled windows messenger.  All was fine for awhile but now the alerts are popping up again.  Very frustrating.  This is slowing my system down dramatically!!

Auto-Protect has detected Adware.Gen

Can anyone help me to delete this virus once and for all?

Security History indicates:  It's a Heuristic Virus
Definitions version 2009.11.08.020
Severity :  Low
Component:  Auto Protect
Status:  blocked
File Name:  c:\documents and settings\kim\application data\messenger\drivers\aud32\msgasst841.dll

every 15 or so minutes!!!

I'm not running messenger!!!

I hear my computer working "overtime" every time this pops up.

Should I just get rid of Norton and get a program that actually works?

I installed Symantec

I installed Symantec Antivirus from my university. It says in the about page the version is 10.1.7.7000. Ive been having this problem with Adware.Gen for 2 months. I have tried several spyware programs, nothing deletes it. Symantec keeps popping up every 2 seconds saying Risk Adware.Gen is quarantined (most of the time). The file location it shows is Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition\7.5\APTemp\APQ6C.tmp

Please tell me what to do about this!

Delete Everything in

Delete Everything in quarantine and %temp% folder.
There might be some other Av on your computer which might be accessing this file so it is again and again getting detected.

Msgasst841.dll Virus

This sounds like a problem that I am having. Norton Internet Security 2010 removes this file and it keeps coming back. Thanks in advance.

How to delete virus w/o using any antivirus

How to delete virus w/o using any antivirus programs !! One of the ways by which a virus can infect your PC is through USB/Flash drives. Common viruses such as 'Ravmon' , 'New Folder.exe', 'Orkut is banned' etc are spreading through USB drive . Most anti virus programs are unable to detect them and even if they do, in most cases they are unable to delete the file, only quarantine it. Here...
