    Hi,

When we start the Software Update cycle manually from a Windows server 2012, it hangs. Note that all required patches are already downloaded on that server.

My question is, do we need the Notification server and Altiris Sql databse server up and running when we run this command line ?

    AexPatchutil.exe /Xa /q /reboot

We patched the 3 servers (NS, SQL server and the windows 2012 server in almost the same time and both servers (NS, SQL) were not available during the restart.

    Thanks

The "client" can be offline during the patch update cycle. No problem at all.

When the NS is available again, the Agent will send the events. Meanwhile they are cached.

You better check the logs where its "hanging"... maybe it just takes a lot of time (there are some updates running for a looong time).

FWIW there was patch that recently shipped that was causing a lot of our 2008 and 2012 boxes to hang at shutdown following patch installation.  Maybe you're seeing the same thing?

Thanks for your answers, all May 2015 security updates have been installed on that server a few minutes after the NS, SQL and task server are rebooted and ready. A grey windows without nothing appeared just after we ran the patch update cycle during at least 10 min, it just takes time.
