After installing SEPM, and using the Migration Wizard to deploy the clients, some see the SEPM server and some do not.

I am running this in a test environment, I have pushed it out to about 4 PC's using the migration wizard, I select the "deploy" option. 2 Machines get the update and communicate with the SEPM with no problem and they are listed properly in SEPM. 2 do not, there is a gold shield with no green light indicating connectivity. On the 2, it looks as if it is properly installed, but there is no communications between the clients and the server. Any assistance is appreciated.

    Thank you.

Replace the sylink on the client that is not commuincating

1.Copy of the file Sylink.xml from the server from C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\data\outbox\agent\( numbered folder)
    2. On the client computer , click Start > Run, type smc -stop, and click OK.
    3. Copy the Sylink.xml into the C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection folder, and replace any existing Sylink.xml file.
    4. Click Start > Run, type smc -start, and click OK.

SylinkDrop.exe on CD2\Tools\NoSupport\SylinkDrop can also be used to copy the sylink.xml

The syntax of this command is:

      SylinkDrop [-silent] [-p password] [SylinkFile]

    -silent Hide user interface
-p         Use this argument if Smc requires a password to stop
        password Password to stop Smc
[SylinkFile] Specifies drive, path, and filename of the sylink.xml file

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Return values:

1 = Program aborted by user
0 = Successfully replaced Sylink file
-1 = Error replacing Sylink file
    -2 = Unrecognized argument

Try to Test Connectivity, if it fails disable Firewall

    Steps to Test Connection
Open a browser on the client and type the following link
    http://server/secars/secars?hello,secars

Where Server - Manager's IP or Manager IP:port (If the iis website is configured to use a different port other than 80 )
If the test is successfull, you should see OK displayed on the browser.

Then you can export sylink.xml from a client group and replace it on the client.
    To replace the sylink,
    Use Sylink Drop
    Or
Follow the below mention steps on the client if SEP is not password Protected.

    Start -> Run
    SMC -stop
Replace the sylink.xml (Default Location : c:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection)
    SMC -Start
    Check the client status :)

you can export sylink.xml from a client group
right click on the client group -> Export Communication settings and save the file as sylink.xml

I am having the same issue. I have SEP running on Server 2008. I was able to push to an XP machine but I only have a gold shield. The client doesn't show up in my group. The Sylink file looks OK on the client side.

I can type http://servername and it displays IIS7 if this means anything.  Servername is name of SEP server.

My issue was the firewall was on - duh

Prachand, there are a LOT of numbered folders, does it matter which one I copy it from? There are 8 numbered folders within the listed directory.

I have tried the different steps, but now I can not tell if anything is going as it should. There is NO longer a gold shiled, it is STILL listed in the programs, but if I try to initiate it, it will not do anything.  I have even run the cleanwipe on this box to no avail.

What credentials, UserID and Password does SylinkDrop use when trying to connect to the Pc's to replace the Sylink file?
I got invalid logon error messages when trying to run the tool.

I manually went to each Pc to replace the file, it's working but the tool would have been MUCH easier.

There are NO services pertaining to ANY symantec sav or SEP installation. I have TRIED the things listed in here, but on this machine it shows that it seems to have been installed, but when I ran the fixes listed, nothing happens, and now I looked at the services and there are NONE!!!
    Please help!!

There is no need to replace the sylink manually .You can either use any of the 2. They will replace the sylink automatically on all the machine

The provided links provided a solution that only lasted for about 3 hours, after that it went off line and went downhill again.

Run the Sylink Toogle on the SEP Client and paste the log

You never mentioned in what order you followed the fixes listed etc.

How did you perform the reinstallation of SEP after you had run the cleanwipe utility? After using cleanwipe you have to reinstall everything.

Have you already read these documents?

This link has a very good guide how to get rid of SEP manually if you do not have the cleanwipe utility available.

    Thanks Prachand,
That helped out a great deal. I looked for an answer to replacing the Sylink file but apparently I stopped looking when I found two solutions.
Using Sylink-Remote worked great for the rest of my Pc's I had to update.
