After a SEPM server is brought down for maintenance, how long does it take for the clients to see the SEPM server when it comes back up?

Also, can I force this to occur more quickly. I needed to bring the SEPM server down to re-rack it where it belongs, but I have yet to see the clients reporting, how long will it take before communication is restored? I will take lunch now and revert back in 1 hour, I am hoping to be connected by then, if not what can I do to force the connection?

    Thank you in advance.

It depends opon the Herabeat Interval set for the client communication.By fefault it is 5 mins.

If you want to force the update “ on the client do a right click on the Yellow Sheild  and update policy

To force From SEPM Do Right Click on the Group and Click Run command on Group and Update Content

You can check the Commuincation settings from

    1. Click the Clients Tab.
    2. Select the client group you would like to check
    3. Click the Policies tab.
    4. If this is not the Global group, uncheck Inherit policies and settings from parent group. Ensure that Policy inheritance is OFF.
    5. Under Location-independent Policies and Settings, with in the Settings box, click Communications Settings..
    6. You can seethe  Heat beat hear    Heartbeat Interval  may be  "5 minutes" .

Heartbeat defnies  how often clients check-in with the manager to receive policies, settings, and content (definition) updates.

Depending on the Heart beat interval that you have set the clients will connect back to SEPM.
by default it is 5 mins.

Server will not communicate with clients as soon as you issue the command or connect it back to network (Because client doesn’t have any services which listen for server commands)...
Client will have to communicate to the server according to the heartbeat interval to report its status...
If the server is not available at that time, it waits for another heartbeat interval.
No need to worry about the down time…
