The Symantec Management Agent (formerly known as Altiris Agent) is the core component that communicates with the Notification Server (Symantec Management Platform). It is downloading policies and sending events and inventory data.
The DS plugin adds further functionality to the (already existing) base task handlers.
When it is installed you can execute the "Deployment Tasks" from the console.
