  • 1.  "Agent x86 Update" keeps trying to update clients...

    Hi,

I recently upgraded from DS 6.9 SP1 to DS 6.9 SP2. During the upgrade, I disabled the automatically update clients option. After the installation completed I noticed the "Agent x86 update" job begain scheduling updates to clients. As a result, I discovered that there was another option to disable in  Control Panel -> Deployment Server Configuration -> Options -> Transport -> "Automatically update clients". After doing this, the problem is still occuring.

My clients are HP T5730 and require the enhanced write filter to commit this change, otherwise the client doesn't actually get updated. I realize this command can be added to the "Agent x86 update" job, however, any changes that a user makes in between starting and completing the job, will be saved to flash. For this reason, I would like to stop the "Agent x86 update" job from running automatically and run the job manually.

    Can this be achived?
    Thanks for you help.

    Regards,
    Andrew

delete the agent update job after you disabled the automatic updates. Once automatic updates set the schedule in the database it will try to run. Once you delete it you may see another job of update aclient but they will not be scheduled.

     Hi Andrew,

If clients still keep running the update job, please can you do the following:
    1. Confirm again the autoupdate setting is turned off
    2. Confirm the registry entry HKLM\SOFTWARE\Altiris\Altiris eXpress\Options\AutoUpdateClients = 0
    3. Reboot the server (a service restart suffices, but a reboot is really, really conclusive)
If you still have clients being assigned the autoupdate job afresh you might have run into a rare configuration which Altiris Support are looking into. You can test this quickly by uninstalling the agent on a computer and installing an older on from the Agents folder in the express share. On connecting to the server, if you've got this issue it will once again be assigned automatically the autoupdate job.

If  this case, call Altiris Support with the problem and ask for your case to be linked to Case 240-965-645.

    Kind Regards,
    Ian./

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried both and the issue continued. I ended up kicking users off their thin clients and performing an update of AClient.exe. I hope this doesn't occur when upgrading in the future...

     Hi Andrew,

I highly recommend that you call Altiris Support. They can then examine your environment and add your data to the pool they already have on this issue. This will help them ensure this doesn't happen in the future.

Give them a link to this thread too.

    Kind Regards,
    Ian./

    Hi Andrew,

If you installed Altiris and then removed administrator rights from the service (as per best practice) it seems that the issue is that the service doesn't have admin rights of the altiris section of the HKLM hive. The solution is to add the altiris service will full rights over HKLM\Software\Altiris
