Agents not registering after upgrade to 7.5

    Hi,


    I hope someone can help. After upgrading our single notification server to 7.5, any of the test clients I have here with the agent on aren't registering. This includes a Server 2008 site server, an x64 Win8 client, an x64 Win7 client and an x86 Win7 client. The status on all shows as "Shutting down" and last registered shows as "Not registered". I have had a look at the "Agent Registration Status" report and that only shows the Notification server itself. Any tips on how to get these agents to register?

    Re-register the task agents on the upgraded clients, using the commands below.  You will need to replace the path if your install isn't in the default location.

    regsvr32 /u /s "C:\program files\altiris\altiris agent\agents\client task agent\client task agent.dll"
    regsvr32 /s "C:\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Agents\Client Task Agent\client task agent.dll"

    Thanks for the suggestion. Still no go I'm afraid. And still no changes to the Agent Registration Status report. All was fine before upgrade to 7.5. Any other suggestions at all? Also you say the upgraded clients... should the actual clients have updated as I don't think they have? Cheers.

    That's a different situation then. :) 

    The agents won't upgrade until you enable the upgrade policies (Settings/All Settings/Agents/Plugins, or for Site Servers - Settings/All Settings/Notification Server/Site Server Settings: expand Task and Package Service folders and under Advanced you'll see the policies). 

    If you don't want to upgrade your agents, but still want communication between them and the upgraded NS, try enabling the Legacy Account Communication (Settings/All Settings/Notification Server/Notification Server Settings - Processing Tab).

    Thanks for your help. I suppose I should have realised the agents would need upgraded but I didn't come across it in the documentation I was looking at. I have applied the policy now and that side of things looks good. Unfortunately though, before you posted that, I uninstalled the agent from the site server I am using for testing. I manually installed the new agent which worked and I can see in Agent Registration Status report that it has registered however, it is not downloading the necessary plugins to make it a site server. When I look at the download path for the plugins, it is trying to download them from itself rather than the main notification server and of course, they aren't there so it can't get them. Any idea how to fix that and get this up and running as a site server again?

    Hi,

     

    Try running "NS.Package Distribution Point Update Schedule" task on NS.

    Also check whether the machine still appears as a Package Server in the Site Server settings at NS.

    If yes, then uncheck it – then NS will stop thinking it is a Package Server.

    For the Task Server, you can go to the Altiris program files directory, then browse to: \Notification Server\NSCap\bin\Win64\X64\Client Task Management\Server Package (or the \Win32\x86 folder if it's a 32-bit OS on your Site Server) and run it manually.

    The Package Server install is located here: \Notification Server\NSCap\bin\Win32\X86\PkgSvr Agent Package

    From there, it should work out.

    Thanks for your help. Great suggestion and I think I'm nearly there. The site server looks to have installed most of the plugins and is now a working task server. The test clients are using it as their task server so that's great. The problem I now have is that it isn't functioning as a package server. Upon doing the above, the old share for the packages "D:\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Package Delivery" has disappeared and the package server tab no longer shows in the agent on this site server. I have tried a resource membership update and restarting the service but still no go. Any idea what to try next?

    Sorry etk1131, just saw your post too which is also helpful. I manually ran the installer and the Package Server tab is now back and the plugin has installed! :) Only problem now is that it's not pulling down the packages. Any way to force this? I guess the fact the share has disappeared is part of the problem?

    Try following steps:

    1. Send basic inventory from PS agent
    2. Run NS.Package Server Status event capture task on NS
    3. Run Delta Resource membership update task on NS
    4. Update Configuration on PS

    Just another update; the share has reappeared but the package server tab is still blank. In the share, all that shows is a file "pkgdlvlk.tmp". It also seems to be struggling to receive the "Network Boot Service" role so I can't currently test it as a PXE server. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Robert. Tried that and still the same. Package server tab still blank, tmp file still in share for packages, Network Boot Service still shows pending on NS. Appreciate all your help. Am I just being impatient or should this have kicked in by now?


    Oh, and the clients are now trying to download from site server, but the packages obviously aren't there (yet?).

    Probably configuration policy for Package Server didn't arrive yet. If it will not get resolved during the night, please send the agent logs from this machine.

    Hi Robert,

    Thanks for all your help with this. I rebooted the site server before I left the office last night and this morning, all seems to be well. I haven't tried a PXE boot yet but the service is installed and all the packages have downloaded so it looks good and the problem I originally raised is resolved. Really appreciate your help.
