AHCI ICH9 SATA drivers in Win PE 1.6

Hello,

I've been working with altiris for about a year now, but am only about ankle deep in it.

My company has recently acquired HP 2530p and 6930p demo units.

In the past, we never worked the SATA mass storage drivers into PE 1.6, but rather disabled SATA mode in BIOS to allow us to image.

For the afore-mentioned models we discovered that if the machine goes into standby it locks up, unless the SATA drivers are used.

So right now our solution is to image with SATA compatibilty set to IDE rather than AHCI in BIOS. Update the drivers once imaging process is complete and we're in XP, reboot and change BIOS setting *back* to AHCI (facotry default) for SATA, and it works. This is a less than awesome solution though. If we needed to re-image this machine remotely we'd need someone on hand to change the BIOS settings twice, and it would delay imaging.

Checked through articles on juice, and an altiris kb, that involved copying the inf and sys files for ICH9 drivers into the appropriate folders in eXpress\Deployment Server\Bootwiz\platforms\Winpe\x86\BASE\I386

Tried using the textsetup.oem method to add new device driver while creating a test PE PXE image, but no dice.

Nothing has worked for me so far. I see the files in the PE image under i386\system32\diskdrivers\%foldername%, it just doesn't seem to be "using" them for lack of a better term. Has anyone else run into this problem and found a definitive answer?

At this time, updating our base image isn't an option. We use a hardware independent image and HII tools. We use the same base image on all PCs. Hoping someone else might be suffering the same trouble.

Cheers.

AHCI ICH9 SATA drivers

We have the HP 6930 model as well. I don't know if this will help or not, but thought I would mention it. I added the SATA drivers into my XP CD and was able to build, upload, and download the image without a problem.

Thanks for the reply Ann.

Thanks for the reply Ann. Would you mind sharing some more details about your setup?

Were you able to integrate the SATA drivers into a WinPE 1.6 image? If so, was it using the boot disk creator, and do you use the 6.9 SP1 deployment server?

Thanks!
