  • 1.  AI Builder - deploying package error

I am trying to deploy a simple package (flash 9 update). I have tested the ai snapshot-resulting application and it runs fine directly on a test machine, it installs the updates I want. When I try to deploy to any of our managed machines from the ghost console, the task simply hangs. Task event logs show:
Download client upgrade, Run client upgrade, download product upgrade, run product upgrade and then finally, change logon settings. It's here that there's no future status change.

The application snapshot was done by an active directory global domain admin account, the same account used on the domain by the ghost console.

The client is still visible as an active connection in the ghost console while the task runs.

We are using GSS2 (upgraded from GSS1.1).

    Any ideas?

    Hi David,

It looks like client is upgraded to the new version at the same time. Just to eliminate the possibility of a conflict, could you run a refresh task on the machine before running the AI task? This will upgrade the client to the new version before applying AI package.

Actually, it could also be that you might be suffering from machines that have duplicate SMBIOS UUIDs; in GSS2 we changed the primary method of identifying client machines to try and use this ID, which the SMBIOS and PXE specifications require to be absolutely unique. Unfortunately, some hardware has absolutely identical "unique" identifiers, which is a bit of a nuisance.

There are several other threads on this issue such as http://forums.symantec.com/discussions/thread.jspa?messageID=4483001 and if you could zip up the ngserver.log file on your console and send it to me along with the MAC address data for one of the problem workstations, then I should be able to work out whether this is the cause (of it's it's something else I should get a sense of what it might be from the logfile too).

You can email me at nigel dot bree at gmail dot com - if this is the duplicate UUID problem I can then send you a download link to some updated server code that can resolve this.
