I am trying to deploy some AI packages that have been created to a client computer using Ghost Console, what I cannot figure out is how to see or send it to the client computer in Ghost Console, I want to see a list of all the client computers somewhere.

    Thanks

The list of client computers should be under the Machine Groups in the Default folder unless they've been moved out of the Default folder.

A list of all client computers (which have the client software installed) is available in the default group section under machines.

To send the package you need to create a task, select the target machine (this will show you same information as held in the machines section), select that you want to deploy an ai package and select detail of which ai package it is (you must have create an item under the ai package section of the configuration resources section in the console).

I don't mean to be critical but you really need to read the AI section of the manual as it is often not as simple as just sending the package to a client. In most cases you need to have used the package builder to strip out the machine name of the machine you originally built the package on). Then you also often need to use the task to transfer additional files, run scripts etc in order to make sure your package works on any machine you deploy it to.

    Hope this helps

All the computers are not in the list, I just thought of something, the Ghost client needs to be installed on all the PCs for them to show in the Ghost Console?

If so, is there anyway I can install it on the PCs remotely? Thanks

From the console go to the <tools> menu. Select <remote clietn install> browse your network for the Domain\Machine you want to do the install for.

Click add and you'll be promted to enter an account with permissions on the machine, I tend to use a domain admin account.

Repeat the process for all the machines you want to install for, then press <install>.

All the machines that are sucessfully installed should now or shortly show in the default machine group.

Great, thanks Bryan, would the client machines know that it is being installed on their machine? wil the user get prompted or notified? Will it require a reboot?

The user will get prompted, but they will not have to do anything. As long as you have the credentials to log onto the system, that's all the Ghost Console needs.

    Thanks,
last question (I think), I installed it on a client PC and verified c:\program files\symantec\ghost was there (which it is)

I still dont see the PC listed under default, any idea how I can check where the PCs would be listed?

Once I deploy the client onto the client machine do I have to do anything on it?Message was edited by:

all new clients are initially listed in the default group. If the client installation was sucessful but you can't see it you may want to try rebooting the client. If that doesn't resolve the issue they may be a problem with the communication between client and server.

Than can be a number of reasons why they may not be able to communicate. I've been lucky and not had the problem before myself, but a quick search of the forum should find some possiblities for you, firewalls, WINS etc etc
