aipackage errors

  • 1.  aipackage errors

I'm using Ghost Console v11.0.1.1533, I used the autoinstall from the cd to make aipackages, the problem i'm having is that every package deploys with a warning:

'AutoInstall Install Engine: The users' hive could not be loaded; all users' settings may lost.'

Any clues on this? I'm not saving any user's settings in these aipackages, is there a way to turn off the 'user's hive' when creating an aipackage? I'm really stumped with this one, maybe someone could at least point me in a direction to investigate

    Hi Alaric ,

The error message you are getting is diplayed because the system can not load any of the user hives.  Ghost Client stores  last logged  in user in special registry key.Somehow there is no data there.

However AI Package functionality should not be minimized  in this case.

Which OS system you are using to create your package and which application?

    Cheers

i'm using WinXP SP2, ai builder 11.0.0.1502, the app is halo, but i get this error from all my packages which include apps like ventrilo to custom packages that simply deposit drivers in a temp directory and then execute the setup silently.

You are correct in that it will deploy and work, however, the issue comes in when i need to remote deploy packages from a batch file. (i need to do this since there is no way to change the deployment order of packages, so the games get installed through a package deploy, then i transfer a batch file which maps network drives and calls patch packages) When a call from a batch file is made it stalls the whole process because it prompts the user to hit 'ok' to the 'users' hive could not be loaded' message.

As possible workarounds, is there a way to call or build an AI package that it will not prompt a user for anything or is there a registry key i can edit so i do not get this error?

    Hi Alaric ,

My suggestion is to use clean "model" computer running only XP with SP2.Then run Snapshot and "monitor" your apps installation.
You have to have credentials of user which is going to run the package.

Also there is Live Update package to upgrade GSS to version 2.01.
    Cheers

I'm not offering this as and answer, but I used to see this message much more when I let the snapshot process write to it's default location (which I believe is in a profile).  Now I have a c:\GhostResources directory in all of my base images.  When I start the snapshot process I hit 'options' and browse to that folder.  Seems to have reduced the number of time I see the error but it could just be a coincidence.   Sorry I can't be more certain.

    triple ace,
when i use ai snapshot i always use a clean winxp sp2 image before i start, i also run it under the same account that i deploy the packages in. I did do a live update of the ghost console and clients to the new version, however, i cannot get an updated version of ai snapshot, for example, if i install ai snapshot on a clean install then try to patch it from the files i got through liveupdate it tells me that ai snapshot cannont be upgraded and older versions must be removed, if i dont have ai snapshot installed and just run the setup from the patch it does not give me an option to install ai snapshot, only ai builder... a bit of a conundrum.

    Alaric ,

Seems a good idea to put AI upgarde on the list of GSS enhancements.

    Brayan ,

changing the default directory should not make difference in a way how Ghost Client  creates and stores user hive details in registry. But anyway it is going to be worth to  try and retest.

    Cheers

i tried his advice and made every part of ai builder use the C:\temp directory and got the same error message

I also tried using an old ghost 8 package and got the same error (when i used ghost v8 console i didnt)

So i wonder what ghost v11.1 does differently now that causes this problem. I'm grateful for the update since ghost v11.0 would give the aio_buf() error and i wouldnt get more that 2 packages installed. I think the dev team needs to chime in here w/ some advice

    Hi Alaric ,

Can you create AItrace.log file on your client and name apps you are trying to deploy?

    Send those to :fkish@symantec.com

    Regards

I am experiencing the same issue. What I see happening is that if the last user to log on to a system has a "Non-Persistent" User Profile, then I get the error "AutoInstall Install Engine: The users' hive could not be loaded; all users' settings may lost." when I deploy my packages. Everything works fine and I don't see any corruption or application failures after deploying my packages. However, If the last person to logon to the system has a persistent profile, then I do not receive the error at all.

As always, Your mileage may vary.

    Good Luck!

I have been getting these errors ever since I moved to the GSS 11.01 update.  I never got this error before that.  What I've seen is that this happens with packages that were built on AI Builder prior to version 11.01 now as well.  It either reports this error in the Ghost Enterprise console as the task runs or if I try the copy and execute task method of deploying the AI Package it reports the error to the logged in user.  If I run the package locally on the comptuer it works, no error message popup.  What this means to me is that it is a permissions problem.  I think that the system account that Ghost is using doesn't have all the proper permissions to write where it needs to whether it be file system or registry.  Being able to run a package locally, I mean copy the file to the comptuer across the network or by sneakernet and then execute it by sitting in front of the comptuer and touching it, means the package works.  There doesn't seem to actually be anything wrong with the functionality of the AI Builder or the package that it creates.  The errors come up with interaction through the Ghost Enterprise Console, specifically versions 11.01 and after.  Would someone from Symantec please address the issue or make some kind of statement, they must know of this problem and have some really rock solid idea of the cause or how to resolve it.

I posted about this error on a different thread:

When deploying a package, AutoInstall attempts to determine the list of users on the system so that it can apply any necessary changes to their registry hives.

The warning you're seeing is when AutoInstall fails to find any users - or can't determine who they are - and therefore won't be able to mount their registry hives.

If you haven't got any registry changes or any user-specific changes in your package, then it may be safe to ignore this warning.

    https://forums.symantec.com/syment/board/message?board.id=109&message.id=12103#M12103

I'm not sure if there's a way to turn off the creation of users' hives when deploying a package. Do you have any existing users on your machine? If not, could you possibly create one and see what happens?

    Vincent,

I have several users on my computers.  The primary user account on every comptuer is the same.  Something has changed in the was that AI Packages seem to work from the Ghost Enterprise console.  I can run a package locally on a computer and it works.  Running it out from the console is what generates the error.

Sorry, my own reply, some other thoughts....

Have there been any MS updates that change the security structure so that when running tasks the system account Ghost uses (default setup) no longer has the proper permissions to write to the user hives?

I have co-workers that are still using the 8.x version of Ghost Enterprise Console and they don't experience these notificaions/errors.  What is different between v11.0x and 8.x?
