AIX courses for NBU admins
Recommendations please on the most useful AIX training courses for me.
About me...
13 years IT experience in mainly wintel, since 3.11 & NT 3.51
I'm good at wintel CMD / bat scripting but cant UNIX script
I can get by when I have to on UNIX but its slow going
(I can just about figure out what command syntax i need using the man pages)
I can just about schedule a task using crontab
I use grep but awk is a mystery
I can just about traverse the file system
About our NBU systems
Primary data center site NBU = AIX 5.3
All other NBU sites across most Europe / Africa / Middle East = Wintel
60% wintel & redhat hosted on VMware ESX, which is a cut down RHEL
30% of data backed up = not wintel = AIX or Redhat
My requirements
I want to be able to take the initiative on NBU specific AIX system recovery in a DR test / real recovery
In the mean time, I have 5 UNIX admins to fall back on (I am asking them this same Q)
Wintel to UNIX cross over course(s) that assumes a certain level of intelligence and IT experience
I want to learn more than I could by taking 1 weeks study leave to read the manuals
Knowing the common sys admin tasks, disk management, SSH, access control, firewalling & ports, packages, TAR & CPIO, anything I need to know
Ideally UK based, instructor lead & hands on
Interactive self study / web / dvds are of some interest also
rubbish courses to avoid
thx in advance

Not so much for NBU on AIX
If you have already familar with NBU on RHEL(or other UNIXs and Windows), what you have to learn about NBU is not so much.
Reading docs(especially Device Configuration Guide) is enough.
Most of your requirements seems like matter of AIX. I read some books about AIX, but those are written in Japanese, and might not suit for you.

Do you have a training budget?
That is probably the most important question here.
If not, then I've been able to learn a lot of Solaris just by reading the certification preparedness books, but of course they do not get into NBU specifics when it comes to daily task automation, scripting, etc. You will need to learn the basics and then apply them to your NBU tasks.
If you have a training budget, then I would suggest checking out some learning courses from IBM.
When I started on AIX
I found a small local training company that had class' on unix scripting.
I took a class to learn the basic unix setup, then the class to learn scripting.
If you go to the IBM training site you will see they also have shell programing class $3525!
As for awk ( and shell programing) go for the O'Reily books
unix in a nutshell
sed & awk
learning the Korn Shell
Learning the vi Editor
The Unix CD Bookshelf (3 books in one with a cd you can search)
I think the best books are the Safari books ( the ones with animals on them)
I don't have to know how to spell....I work on Unix.
NetBackup 7.0.1 - AIX & Windows
In my opinion
the best shell scripting book out there is
Unix Shell Programming by Stephen G. Kochan and Patrick Wood, by Sams publishing, ISBN 0-672-32490-3
It is not AIX specific, but goes over how to script in a very readible and learnable format.
yes I have a budget
Thanks for all the suggestions
I'll try and get an instructor led course for a AIX sys admin quick start, then try with books for the scripting side
It turns out that a collegue, who is a dark horse, has written this book

So I may give it a try unless its too dated now
