  • 1.  All Computers showing up as Unknown Computers

I am having an issue installing a managed version of SEP onto client machines.  I used to have no problem, but recently every single computer I try to deploy to shows up in unknown computers and the installation always fails.  I know machines only show up in unknown if there is a problem with yoru credentials, but I am 100% sure that my credentials are fine.  The client machine I am trying to log into is right next to me and I can log in with no problems.  I am also using a domain admin account, and have even added myself as a local admin on the machine just on case.  Does anyone know what else could be causing the machines to show up in unknown computers?  I have been forced to install unmanaged versions of symantec on the last several machines, but I recently just got an additional dozen machines and really cannot continue using unmanaged versions on all of these.  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!  Thank you.

Check this KB for a possible solution -

"Find Unmanaged Computers" wizard lists unmanaged computers in the "Unknown Computers" category

can you connect to the C$ and admin$ shares remotely?

    ie \\machinename\c$

If not it is most likely Simple Filesharing, or the Windows Firewall
