all the jobs getting error 196, after a long waiting ,

netbackup 7.5.0.4
win 2008 r2
 
 
4/3/2013 4:00:00 PM - requesting resource master server  NBU_CLIENT.MAXJOBS.server
4/3/2013 4:00:00 PM - requesting resource master server NBU_POLICY.MAXJOBS.policy
client backup was not attempted because backup window closed(196)
 
and it continuously goes on till 5 pm and gives this error
 we are taking backups on our disk storage

Status 196 means a backup was unable to start withing the defined backup windows. If no resources are available e.g a free tape drive you will see status 196.

What messages is shown "continuously".

Assumption is the mother of all mess ups.

So how many jobs do you run and how many streams are allowed in the disk storage unit?

Is the disk storage unit up?

196 means a job was queued for a while waiting for a free stream so that it could start its backup but other jobs were using the device - by the time it has chance to start it had missed its backup window

Tell / Show us more about you disk storage, its setup and status and about how many jobs you run

Also - has this suddenly happened or always happened - new or old system?

Yes disk storage units is up

i use 3 concurrent jobs in one storage unit

also Max jobs allowed 99 in master server

i ran one job at a time

but when it finishes  it gives 196 error after hanging

and another job start and it remain on hang and again gives 196 error

there is some resources problem i think

we are taking backups as multiple copies on disk and on tape

may be some tape problem

i checked there is coming request error.

assign or deny request ,like this

Do assign request , if Wednesday tape is there .

I checked on device monitor , i check the tape showing request

i right click and assign request for Wednesday tape

and job started working

Message: client backup was not attempted because backup window closed
Explanation: A backup or an archive operation that the backup scheduler queued was not tried because the backup window was no longer open.

Every Policy has a backup window which is also called the schedule duration of the backup to run (Start Day-Start Time and End Day-End Time)

When all the resources are used, it puts the incoming scheduled policy to "Queue" state.
And when the resources is available and starts the scheduled policy but the backup window (schedule) has already passed, it will return the exit status code 196.

For example if  the policy window is 18:00 to 06:00 and the backup jobs start at 06:10 then we will get 196 errors.

Recommendations:

Try to prolong the schedule window or reschedule the policy for that.
