All Media Unrecognized
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 4 comments
Our backups were working fine for about a month. At the end of May they just seemed to stop working. Now, any tape we place in the drive comes up as unrecognized media. Each night the backup job sits at 'loading media'. We are able to successfully quick erase/long erase and label the media without errors or alerts. However, the media name never sticks and the tape continues to show as unrecognizable media with a ? as its label. It is also placed into the retired media set. This is happening to old media that was working and new media that has never been used. To my knowledge there have not been any changes to the software so we are baffled as to why this is occuring.
Thanks for any assistance.

Hi Brian,
This sounds a lot like my old problem.

I wish I could be more positive, but we never did find a fix for it. In the end, we moved the media server to another machine and with the same tape drive never had an issue.

Thanks Joshua and Deepali....I will be on site Friday to have a look again at the problem. I'll try the drivers and see what happens. I'll post back when I have something to report.
