all new installations going into user mode and wrong groups

  • 1.  all new installations going into user mode and wrong groups

    Hi.

Any new SEP installations are now going into user mode, not computer mode when looking at SEP console. They are also ending up in the 'My Company' group, although I have seen at least one just end up in a random one.

I haven't tested it by deploying to clients directly yet, but it does happen on freshly created installation packages and also the ones I created some time ago and haven't changed

I did see this mentioned in some other posts and it was supposed to be fixed by the release I'm running which is 11.6, although even clients with 11.7 are still going into the wrong groups in computer mode..

    1. what can I do to stop this happening?

    2. How can I change all the computers running in 'user' mode as I can only seem to change them one by one, which is very tedius and time consuming

    Thanks,

    Mark

You will want to check some settings for the Client Policies

Navigation Bar: Clients > Select appropriate group > Policies tab > Location-independent Policies and Settings > Communication Settings > Reconnection Preferences

You may also need to look at the settings for Location, if you are using Location Awareness and are not using the Group Communication Settings.

Finally, any policy changes you make, you will want to insure that those policy serial numbers are carried over to the client. How quickly this happens is dependent on your communication push/pull interval and how well the clients are communicating with the SEPM.

    I hope this helps!

    Hi

    Thankyou

I do not have 'location independant settings' - I do have 'location specific settings' and under communications settings for this neither of those check boxes are marked.

should they be checked and how will this effect me? It's new installations that are the problem. existing clients are staying in Computer mode

    thanks

Also for install packages that seem to be getting installed randomly, you will also want to make sure that there are no install packages assigned to those groups by going to the applicable group and clicking on the "Install Packages" tab:

To move clients from one group to another, or changing multiple clients from user to computer mode, you can also use the "MoveClient" tool which is located in your SEP 12.1 installer in the Tools > NoSupport folder.

This issue has been fixed in RU7 its there in release notes.

User mode and Group jumping was fixed in Ru7.

Install new clients only with RU7.

If you are facing issue with Ru7 clients then that is a problem that should worked upon

Ok - it's happened once on a RU7 client - but SEPM is still on version behind - so I will upgrade SEPM first and see if it's still effecting new clients on RU7

    Will post feedback next week.

    Also, not AD integrated

    thanks

    Double checked..

Its a SEPM fix not a client fix. So SEPM needs to be RU7 clients don't matter

    Brilliant

    thanks everyone

so I upgraded SEPM to 11.07..... tried a new client and it installed into correct group in computer mode.

What's more....when I first logged into SEPM console I could see all those old machines that had installed under wrong groups and in user mode, which i wasn't that bothered about as I could do them manually...next time I logged in they're all gone!!!! gone into their proper groups and no one is installed in usermode anymore. so it fixed it properly!!!!

    Thanks very much
