This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi All,

Rather than creating more LUN and assigning Physical RDM into my Enterprise Vault 8 servers VM, what are my options to reducethe number of LUN disk usage ?

and of course to avoid running out of drive letters due to myself keep on adding drives into this EV server.

Hello John,

There are some options.

Collect and Migrate - internal EV process, to store an x-number of dvs/dvssp/dvscc files into 1 cabfile (size determinable, best practice 10MB), when collected, move to secondary storage. Cabfiles will be removed from primary storage. Admin Guide

Mount Points - Instead of adding disks with driveletters, mount disks into an empty folder. - prevents running out of driveletters

Expiry - Configure expiry using retention categories.

Those are the options I can think of.

Cool, many thanks Gertjan,

I was thinking to use EMC Data Domain for this reason (https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/sites/defa...)

Hopefully EV 8.0.4 and above supports it.

Hello John,

AFAIK DataDomain is supported. In the compatibility chart, it shows as support for EV7.5 (2007) and up.

Oh, and can you mark an answer as a solution?

Mount points are the way to go (along with expiry)
