Altiris 6.9 SP4 and Dell Optiplex 390 Linux PXE

Hi,

thanks in advance.

We have recently taken delivery of several hundred Dell Optiplex 390s that use Cougar Point SATA controllers. This particular model can only use ATA, no AHCI mode.

The linux kernel included with 6.9SP4 cannot see the disks on this machine, although the controller appears to be recognised. Later kernels can see the disks but i'd rather not have to rebuild our environment to use another kernel as it causes problems with our other builds.

Has anyone come across an easy way to fix this at all? we are a bit stuck otherwise. I could use another kernel temporarily, I suppose, but it is not very elegant.

Regards

David

Solution found!

Applying the modifications described in this link, before recompiling the current kernel (2.6.27.7) for Altiris PXE linux 6.9SP4 solved it for me.

For the recompilation of the kernel I folowed this article.
