Altiris 6.9 & SunFire x2100
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 11 comments
From my understanding the SunFire x2100 is not compatible with Altiris 6.9?
I've been trying to get it to work. Though it gets as far as booting into WinPE, it then cannot locate the DHCP server. From my past experiences this is usually a problem with the network drivers in the WinPE image less so than a DHCP / network problem (at least in my environment).
Any suggestions for resolution / imposability of it?

Hey Aaron
Out of curiosity, did you add in the Sun mass storage and network driver to the WinPE compiled disk?

I believe I added the network driver to the WinPE image, as it only seemed to be having problems finding the DHCP server. The unit only has one drive in it at the moment. Would that necesitate the mass storage driver?
Hmmm
The reason I ask is that I don't think that WinPE supports Sun Server NICs out of the box, it could, but I guess it depends on which version of WinPE you are running.
Which version of WinPE are you running?

I'm using WinPE2.1
I've already added a couple custom drivers to overcome network issues before.
If I knew which drivers I specifically needed to add to support to the SUN gear I would have no problem doing so.
Which drivers are required for the x2100?
A PDF to do it!
http://www.sun.com/systemmanagement/820-4297-10.pdf This is how to ues Altiris DS 6.8 . Sun wrote a very step by step way to deploy a image with this pdf, Quicly looking it over you shouldn't have much troubles making it work with DS 6.0SP1 or SP2. Please if you like my solution don't forget to give me credit :)

Thank you wuzfuzzy and palvaran;
I have read that document, but my case is that I do not have the tools & drivers CD, and in turn, cannot solve the mystery of what drivers I need to include in the WinPE image.
If either of you know what drivers I need for a SunFire x2100 NIC (note: this is not the M2 model) that's all I'm really after here. I'm well aware of how to go about building WinPE images and adding drivers in my environment. The matter seems to be finding the right bleeding driver.
Thank you for your time,

Driver Downloads
http://www.sun.com/servers/entry/x2100/downloads.j... the looks of grab the latest NON M2 iso and you should have all drivers you could ever want :)
PS
looks like its a intel card so you just go out to intel and download the driver too :)

Thank you again wuzfuzzy,
I think I have tried the Driver CD before, but my documentation of the process was poor, so I'll try again and keep better records so I know I've tried it.
For the intel links, those only seem to be offering up drivers for 2008/vista. My understanding is the WinPE2.1 is a server2003 variant and would require corresponding drivers?

WinPE 2.1
I could be wrong, but I think I have seen many posting on here and elsewhere that says that WinPE 2.1 requires Vista/2008 drivers (i.e. XP and 2003 drivers will not work in WinPE 2.1).

wuzfuzzy, thank you so much
wuzfuzzy, thank you so much for that step by step deployment guide from Sun. That was a fantastic guide and I liked how it segmented the different Sun lines! Thumbs up here for you!
