I am new to the forum, being a BMC software expert, not Altiris/Symantec. I was looking for some guidence/advice.

We own the Remedy suite and are looking to integrate Altiris to our CMDB in support of the Asset Management/Procurement process.

We want to pull in laptops/PC's, relationships to people and software products installed on these machines.

How difficult is this integration, and what are our options. I had heard there are fewer options since our Altiris system has been upgraded.

Any comments are appriciated!

You will require the AMS suite to perform the true asset lifecycle management process entirely in Altiris. However, CMS can perform the relationships between a User > Computer > Installed Software using some Primary User data and Inventory policies to collect the data.

If you wanted to connect to the Altiris DB and use that as a data source for the Atrium CMDB to help create the "gold" record for a device you can conenct directly to the DB and link the information from Altiris into Remedy as well.

I suppose it all depends on where you want to manage assets.

We were using the Remedy Connector with Altiris v6, which was based on a "export from Altiris / Import into Remedy"... pretty long & heavy process (at least the import to Remedy).

Since 7.x, we are using an Oracle Gateway to let Remedy read straight into the SQL CMDB and display whatever information into the different Remedy Forms... (you just need a clear understanding of the CMDB Schema)
It saves a lot of time and resources.

Give it a try!
