Altiris 7.1 SP2 MP1 to 7.6 Upgrade Option not displaying

    Hello,

    We're upgrading from Altiris 7.1 SP2 MP1 to 7.6 on box on a Windows Server 2008 R2.

    I've installed SIM on the latest version and the first screen i got was for installing new products.

    I am not getting available updates, all the altiris components display the option to repair or uninstall, and trying to install other solutions or add on products display an error stating SMP 7.6.

    What we've tried:

    -SQL used to be 2005, has been upgraded to 2008. The console works and the DB is set for compatibility with 2008.

    -Several Restarts

    -The NS.Package.Refresh has been run

    -There are no pending tasks

    -Downloading the latest product listing from solutionsam.com and loading it to SIM.

    -Repair each component. It performs the task but comes back to the same list.

     

    I've read that the best practice is to upgrade to MP1.1 but im not sure what would be the proper way to do that.

    Hi,

    Please ensure the pl specified in SIM settings is: 

    http://www.solutionsam.com/solutions/pl/symantec_v2.pl.xml.zip

    Upgrade to 7.6 requires latest rollup version of 7.1.SP2 - R11. Please ensure you have the latest SMP and agent on NS (link https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.howto81832.html has attached pdf with versions)

    Thank you very much for your response!

    Thats the version of product listing i loaded.

    So one option would be to follow the rollup to R11. In that case, would i need to upgrade all agents to this version before upgrading to 7.6?

    If that's the case, wouldnt a fresh installation of 7.6 take less time and resources?

    Hi,

    Nope, upgrade of the clients is not required, only NS should be upgraded.

    Please note: I have seen situations when two symantec_v2.pl.xml files specified in SIM pl settings, both targeted to proper link "http://www.solutionsam.com/solutions/pl/symantec_v2.pl.xml.zip".

    If one selected then no available updates displayed, if another one selected, then updates are shown.

    Im checking the product listing right now, and its a bit odd.

    I have 3 product listings right now:

    • The default PL: when selected states updated 4/20
    • A copy of the default created (removing www. from the address to avoid duplication): states updated 4/20
    • A downloaded copy of the .zip file: states updated with download date (today).

    I am getting no updates with any PL.

    I get the install new products option with the suites, but gives me an error stating it needs the SMP 7.6 when i choose any option.

    Hi fdiez,

    Well, frankly it's a bit odd to me to. I have quickly verifyed similar scenario on a server with 7.1.SP2.R10 - after latest SIM installed I see "upgrade" link, so your situation most probably is not related to "not-latest-rollup".

    One thing you may try: close SIM, find folder "...Altrisi\Symantec Installation Manager\InstallHistory" and move all items with .xml extention to some folder. Re-launch SIM and ensure your selected pl is: "symantec_v2.pl.xml.zip (Default)".

    Could you please check SIM version? Please make sure you have the latest.

    Hi Alex,

    I tried moving them to another folder and restarted the server and im finding the same issues.

    Just in case, i also renamed the .zip files in the \Support folder, moved the PLs on \Installs\Altiris and renamed InstallHistoryPL.xml on the main folder. Restarted aswell and im still not presented with any upgrade option.

    My SIM version is 7.6.71

    Tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it

    Hi,

    1. You said that you've tried to uninstall and then reinstall SIM 7.6.71?

    If you are uninstalling SIM from "Add/*Remove programs", then its uninstall all installed products within ITMS and SIM as well.

    Result:

    Now after reinstalling SIM 7.6.71 back you don't see there any notifications that you have some updates to install, therefore you need to click "Install new products" and choose previously used (now uninstalled) Suite/Solutions for further installation.

    2. I assume that you didn't have a connection to your SQL Server where "Symantec_CMDB" database is running, therefore you didn't see any notification about available HF or Upgrade.

    Check what settings are set for your database, etc in SIM reg and make sure that your an access from this Windows Server to remote SQL Server and database.

    3. If you are going to perform upgrade from 7.1.x version to 7.6, where:

    - "Symantec_CMDB" database 7.1.x version is running on remote SQL Server

    - You've installed SIM 7.6.71 on new clean Windows 2008 R2 SP1 x64 or Windows 2012 R2 x64 Server, wWhere isn't running SMP 7..x version.

    Result:

    When you're installing a SIM on clean Windows Server and going to perform an upgrade from 7.1.x to 7.6 version, then after opening SIM, it doesn't show information that you have some upgrade/hotfixes to be installed and you need to:

    • Click "Install New Products" -> choose appropriate Suite/Solutions
    • Proceed to step where to set credentials for IIS Web Site in SIM
    • Proceed to SQL Server settings page in SIM -> browse your remote SQL Server, where "Symantec_CMDB" 7.1.x version is running and set correct credetials -> begin installation

    After that it will determine this remote 7.1.x database and will perform upgrade.

    If you you go to the installed products page and hit control-shift-P it will switch the view to show if any of the products are partially install or configured.   Check to see if the platform shows as a partial install.

    Just checked, when i hit the sequence it gives me a blank list of partial installs

    Hi Igor, thanks for your reply

    This installation is an on box, I am trying to upgrade to 7.6 on the same server running 7.1

    My mistake, SIM hasnt been uninstalled.

    You think it could be a database issue? The NS is giving reports so the connection to the DB should be working.

    The database engine used to be SQL 2005 and was upgraded to 2008 R2. I checked the compatibility on the DB as stated in another post and it is 2008.

    I tried repairing it from the console on Settings/Notification Server/Database Settings and it go through the process, it is using the application credentials.
