Hi All,
Ran an in-place upgrade from my 7.1 SP2 MP1 NS Server to 7.5 using the 7.5 SIM. The process ran all the way through before informing me the upgrade failed. Problem is, the rollback to 7.1 was not complete. So, it appears I am somewhere in the middle between 7.1 and 7.5. Working with Advanced Level support now on the Core side and the DS side (imaging is now not working). We think we have the DS component upgraded to 7.5 now. The two new Symantec Netboot services were created. But, PXE boot is not presenting us with the WinPE Pre-boot Menus we had previously configured. Also, the imaging jobs are not displaying correctly in the Console (Cannot see Properties of the Imaging job--We get an error: "A critical error has occurred on this page. Check the Altiris logs for more information"). Also, the upgrade to 7.5 appears to have deleted all of our Ghost (*.GHO) image files. I have since restored them from backup.
I am think about possibly building a new Windows 2008R2 SP1 server and installing 7.5 clean there. Then installing 7.5 clean to that server, pointing it at a restored copy of my SQL database for Altiris. Then, I would try to redirect my clients to this new server. Of course, I don't know if I would have to recreate all my policies/jobs, etc.
I wanted to run this potential workaround scenario by the community. I also wanted to let everyone know what my experience was like, as others consider upgrading to 7.5 from 7.1 SP2 MP1.
