  • 1.  Altiris Agent 7.1 GUID behaviour - When does the GUID change on the client?

When the Altiris Agent 7.1 installs and connects to the server it creates a guid.

I want to find out what happens for this scenario:

The Altiris Agent is installed while the computer is on the domain and performs a full inventory uploads it to the server etc.. and gets it's GUID for the first time. Then the computer looses trust with the Domain (the old computer object is still there on Active Directory though). The Altiris Agent is still installed, intact though. After the computer looses trust, someone goes and re-adds it to the Domain in Active Directory under a new computer object.

What happens the the Altiris Agent's GUID? Does it create a new GUID or does it keep the old GUID it had when it was first installed?

It'll keep it's GUID and report new name and/or domain details.

You can look up what happens if you clone an image with a GUID, it's called the duplicate GUID problem. Then you end up with one record who's name changes as each PC with that GUID reports in and changes the name of the record.

If you want to have the PC generate a new GUID run AeXAgentUtil.exe /resetguid on the agent. It'll delete it's existing GUID and request a new one.

The computer will still receive its original guid as 7.x uses 4/5 unique identifiers compared with 6.x's one.
