Client Management Suite

Hi,

Can anyone please give me the functionality of each of the Altiris Agent Plugins?

I tried searching it everywhere but was not successful.

Would be great if some body can share it.

If you are looking for general descriptions of which options available for you with some specific plugin then, probably, the best place is a user guides for the Client Management Suite, Server Management suite and IT Management suite. For example, if you will take a look at CMS UG (https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.DOC7974.html) then in table 1.1 "Components of Client Management Suite" you will find description for each solution included to the CMS suite. It's more or less transparent: description of Inventory Solution is basically description of inventory plugin(s); description for "Software Management Solution" is a description of "Software Management Solution Agent" plugin etc. Each solution has a link to the solution's UG and you may find plugin name(s) for the specific solution by this link.

But i was looking for functions of the plugins like Software Management Framework Agent, Altiris Client Task Agent etc which will installed along with the Symantec Management Agent on the PCs.

Along with SMA installed:

Altiris Base Task Handlers

Altiris Client Task Agent

Inventory Rule Agent

Software Management Framework Agent

Basically, with such agents you will be able to execute tasks from "Jobs and Tasks -> Samples -> Notification Server". Agents used to provide support for very basic things like running script tasks and collecting basic inventory.

Solutions' plugins then will use common functionality of all these agents to implement solution-specific tasks.

Client Task Agent is a part of "Task Management" functionality. In general, Task Management has server part ("Task Server") and client part ("Client Task Agent"). Client Task Agent connects and registers on a Task Server at the first start of SMA. CTA is responsible for processing client tasks: it receives task from the task server and report status of task execution. CTA facilitates all task management related communication with SMP and Task Servers. Client primarily communicates with the task servers, however, there are some cases when it calls a few web services on the SMP Server. Communication to the task server goes through HTTP(S). CTA also maintains a tickle connection to the Task Server in order to receive real-time notifications about availability of new tasks.

Base Task Handlers is a collection of some common task handlers: script, power control, service control, etc.
