  • 1.  Altiris Agent Push

    Today after much testing I tryed to push out the Altiris Agent to mulitple PCs within my I.T organzation.

    I had all the check boxes turned off so none would get the icon in the tray or on the start menu.

    Magically 98 computers got the icon.  I've since uninstalled the agent.

    I double and tripled checked the settings.....help!

    (v6) Altiris Agent configuration settings, or (v7) Targeted agent settings, have options, post install to either show the tray or not. The default is to show the tray icon. What you check during the push install is only for the intial configuration.

    Once a client checks in, and receives a guid, it will use the agent configuration settings (targeted agent settings) and then follow the behavior listed there.

    V7 using the installation settings box. On the Altiris Agent Install screen

    I have a organzation with over 5000 workstations.  I need this tray icon not to show during the install. 

    Good thing I don't work on the HelpDesk. :-)

    is the way to go. However, depending on how quickly the agent gets it's configuration settings, you may still see the tray icon and incorrectly assume this was caused by the agent push.

    If you really don't want the tray icon, leave your settings for the installation screen as you have them. Then go to the targeted altiris agent settings (settings -> agents and plugins -> Targeted agent settings). Select -> All Desktop computers. Then click on the user control tab, and uncheck "show tray icon".

    Do this BEFORE pushing any agents out.
