  • 1.  Altiris agent tries to find a Task Server before VPN connection is established

We have NS7.0 users that connect over VPN from their home network or an air card. The issue we are running into is the users start their machines and the Altiris Agent starts as a service, but it doesn't have a Task Server defined because the VPN connection hasn't been established. Once a VPN connection is established, the Altiris agent doesn't try to reconnect to a Task Server, so it doesn't pick up scheduled tasks. The only resolution we've been able to find is to restart the service once the VPN connection is established. When the service is started without a VPN connection, it has a Status of "Shutting down" and it doesn't have a Task Server listed. Clicking the "Check for tasks" button doesn't seem to make it reconnect.

Any options that can be configured within the NS or on the agent to have it retry if it can't find a Task Server? If you simply take a laptop offline, start it up and look at the agent, you should see the "Shutting down" status. Once you connect via VPN, how do you get the agent to connect to a Task Server to have it pick up scheduled tasks?

I believe this is causing our issue...

Since these machines receive a 192.168.x.x address on the home router, they end up having multiple IPs when the VPN connection is established. I really wish there was a way to force the agent to communicate out the VPN connection when it's established (other than restarting the service).
