  • 1.  Altiris Agent upgrade

    Hi have a situation that I am seeing in 2 separate environments, each on different versions but both experiencing the same problem in regards to the agent upgrade.

    Orignally on NS6, performed an upgrade migration to 7.5 SP1 HF3 using the migration script provided in another post and tested with a pilot group. Prior to moving the 7.5 environment to production I upgraded to HF4.  I find that some machines have the agent version from HF3 and are receiving the upgrade policy but not the SWD package.

    In the RAAD tool, only the Altiris agent is installed, the Inventory agent, PC Anywhere, Software Management, and SMA Upgrade policies are applied but there are no SWD packages and no errors in the log.

    I have tried re-registering the agent from RAAD, and modifying the agent schedules.  I have done an uninstall/reinstall to get the correct agent version installed but the additional SWD packages are still not being installed.

    I have a case open with support and have not had any luck in resolving this issue.  Anyone have any ideas?

    Have you tried disabling your current policy for the SWD package and cloning a new policy. Also put in a schedule and make sure it does not say run once. Under Schedule run it "By Schedule" but if you have it se to Run Once you may have to clone a new policy for the machine to reconize it needs the upgrade.

    Hi John, yes I've tried cloning the SMA upgrade policy with a defined schedule, the agent gets the policy update but no package is applied.

    In the log the following, new policies received from the server, then these 2 items:

    source="Agent" module="AeXNSAgent.exe" process="AeXNSAgent.exe" pid="2392" thread="4128" tickCount="1501724328"><![CDATA[Loading client object: Altiris.SWD]]></event>

    [CDATA[Object 'Altiris.SWD' is not installed: Invalid class string (0x800401F3). This situation should be resolved once the agent rollout has been completed.]]></event>

    I also tried to clone the SMS plug in with the same results.

    Check your site/package servers, and their agent upgrade policies.  Make sure they're running the latest base agent and stub agents.  Also make sure the agent package is available and ready. 

    I would also check the upgrade targets for the upgrade policy: Is this computer experiencing the problem in the target for upgrade?    Does the inventory for the resource show the agent with the earlier version of the policy?

    Have I gathered a full inventory from the resource?  When was the last full inventory successfully submitted?

    Hope these help narrow the troubleshooting target window.

    A couple of different things worked for this issue:

    uninstall application metering agent

    re-register agent

    stop/start the agent service

    request configuration update

    Then the policies were populated and ran successfully.

     

    On some of the XP machines the issue was related to the regsvr32 was dated prior to 2008-4-14.  Once I replaced the outdated file, pushed the agent install, all solution plugins installed.
