  • 1.  Altiris and SVS Layers preventing users from logging in

    Hi,

We have been running Altiris for some time now and have a large collection of VSA layers which we activate using a script in Altiris (6.9).   We've recently started to have a problem with the layers in that they are preventing users from logging in the first time they use a PC.

If a user tries to log in they get a temporary profile and they are logged out.  They then 'loop around' the CTRL-ALT-DEL screen and need to reboot.  Once they have done that they are able to log in fine until that machine is reimaged or their profile is removed.

I'm not sure if this is the right part of the forum but I am desperate as it is a logistical nightmare at the moment.

Has anyone got any ideas as to what the problem is?

    Thanks in advance

    Stuart

Windows 7 or Windows XP?  All users or only certain users?  I've seen this before where disabling Fast User Switching resolved the issue.  I haven't seen Altiris cause this before.

It's Windows XP and is for all users on that PC.   I thought Fast USer Switching is not available on XP Professional computers on a domain.

You should have some hints in the event log.  I'd check the system log as well as the application log.  For example, is your antivirus program locking a file in the user profile, or are any profile errors being logged?
