Altiris Application Control causes slow bootup on Windows XP

Hello,

I have Altiris Application Control version 6.1 SP1 installed on my NS.  I have about 300 Dynamic filters to block apps - using a blacklist approach.

When I deploy the agent to a Windows XP PC and apply the blocking policies the PC takes a long time to bootup to the Control-Alt-Delete screen.  It hangs for many minutes (3-15) on the 'Applying Computer Settings" popup.

I've looked carefully at the verbose log files for App Control and the Altiris Agent but have not been able to find a reason for the delay.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Alex

We've experienced the same

We've experienced the same exact thing.
The difference is that we aren't doing as much with Application Control as you are.
I do know that the problem started to occur when we uninstalled the AClient and installed the DAgent.
Nothing else changed on the system at all except for the DAgent.
I have noticed that if I stop the Altiris Application Control service and disable it, the comptuer reboot time drops from 6 to 12 minutes down to 1 to 2 minutes.
Have you found a permanent fix to this issue?

Just my opinion...

at least in the case of nande65, that is ALOT of blacklisted apps. It's been awhile since I worked with app control, but can you take a 'whitelist' approach?

For beangbs, that sounds like the known issue mentioned in Altiris KB47256.
