Altiris CMS 7.1 Out Of Band Service install greyed out

  • 1.  Altiris CMS 7.1 Out Of Band Service install greyed out

    Posted Jul 28, 2011 10:33 AM

I'm just doing a new install of altiris 7.1, i'm having problems deploying OOB service to my site servers.

OOB service has installed on the NS server fine, but when trying to install on either of my 2 new site servers the option is greyed out.

Task and package services have gone on fine.

Site servers & NS are Server 2008 R2 std SP1

    Any ideas?

    Cheers, Darren

Likely you are missing some pre-reqs.

    This article lists what's required:
    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO47730

But I believe Server 2008 is acceptable as well based on the filters I see in 7.1.  In light of this it would be something like Server 2008, IIS7 with IIS 6 compatibility and .NET 2.0 installed.

Does Terry's article help guide you through the process?

Terry article was a good start point, but not quite getting what I expected.

NS = exuma, Site Sever = bimini

Firstly oob has successfully installed on exuma, and the OOB database has been created fine.

    See pics1-2

I've then run prereq checks on both servers

See pics3-4, pic5 result for exuma, pic6 results for bimini

Doesn't appear to be much different but OOB service install on bimini is greyed out

    See pics-7-8

    Any ideas whats wrong??

If you force a membership update in screenshot 3 showing the potential servers, does the list include bimini?  I ask because it was last updated January 2011.

You have another thread regarding agents not checking in with bimini but using exuma instead.  I imagine resolving that issue will resolve this issue.

Hi mclemson thanks for your replies.

I'm in the uk so the date on that one is today 1st of August.  I've also been trying manual update memberships is ive been trying things, can't get server bimini in that list.  Even tho it appears to meets the pre req's as far as I can work out.

    Thanks,

    Darren

I guess without seeing the server I'd assume it doesn't meet the pre-reqs.  Does it meet everything in http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO47730?

    HI,

    The OOB solution have 2 level of the prerequisites check;

First level is that “Potential” filter, it checks the base requirements (Let’s say the Operating system), if client not appears in that filter, then the installation of OOB site server is blocked as it can’t be assumed that the correct operating system is there.

The second level is that “Prerequisites check task” -> it mostly checks the configuration of potential server, to suggest what type of provisioning of clients can be done with that OOB Site Server (base\ TLS secure \ Mutual secure \zero touch …)

So the main problem in this case is that the client not passed the “base” check and NS unable to determinate what OS is there.

As mentioned above when the problem with filter will be resolved then the “Grey Out” problem should be resolved.

The other question is that why the “bimini” not appears in the filter.

Can you check and add screenshot from “AeX AC Identification” dataclass from resource explorer -> inventory ->Basic Inventory for this server?

    Thanks

    AlexTH

Try to review OOB portal under Home -> Remote Management -> OOB. It has kind of setup steps you need to do to install OOB&SCS and in most cases if you have some problem when it will be reported there.

    Thank you,

    Alex.

This information looks OK, can you also attach the screen shot from “AeX AC Client Agent” dataclass.

The new server also not included in “Potential OOB Service” filter ?

Please check also that both of that servers appears in “Manage -> Filters -> Computer Filters -> Windows -> Windows Servers filter.

The servers do appear in the Windows Servers Filter

No servers appear in OOB Potential Site Servers

One thing i've noticed looking at the SQL for that is the OS Sub Language on my severs is set to 2 not 1, is this the problem.

Yes, good catch, I also currently looking on that.

Seems that can be the problem.

Can you try to modify the filter query?.

If not, you can try to use the “Install OOB Site Server” job to install the OOB Site Server on the “bimini” server, and check if the installation passed, or returned the “Non-Supported” OS language.

If the error will be returned, then please check the following KB on How to install the SCS to OS with Non-Supported Languages.

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO42438

Specify the regkey on Site Server, and re-run the install SCS task.

    Job is under :

Manage -> Samples -> Remote Management -> Intel SCS tasks and Jobs -> Troubleshooting Tasks And Jobs ->

Unable to edit the system filter.

I changed my regional settings to US then sent a basic inventry up and bingo the servers appear in the required filter and was then able to deploy the OOB service, which has now installed correctly.

Just gotta work out how to use it now!!

How can I log a bug with symantec for this, the OS is in English after all.

    Thanks all for your help.
