Hi guys,

As you can see in the title, the Altiris console on a Server 2003 givers errors and hangs. And Altiris isn't working so good anymore. Feels like lagging. Doesn't refreshes the status of the computers anymore and so on. It happens nearly every week. And then i have to restart the Server 2003 to have a view more days of good working.

If check the event viewer i get those errors:

And onemore thing. I've found some explanation here:
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/can...
But, my SQL server is on the same machine (software server). So i think the network issue is not so relevant to this situation.

So i would really appresiate some suggestons.

Thank you alreasy.
And have a nice day.
Nikolai

Try updating network drivers

Can you try updating network drivers and running Windows Update?  This is an old KB but it seems to apply to your situation:
https://kb.altiris.com/article.asp?article=20412&p=1

Also, what DS version are you running?  How many nodes does this server support?

Hi Mclemson, Thank you for

Hi Mclemson,

Thank you for the fast replys.

If we are talking about updating network drivers i am asking myself wich ones are that, the VMWare drivers (that comunicate actually with the hardware) or the Windows Server 2003 virtual machine drivers that i have to update. Becaus as i think about it, there is no point in updating the "VMware Accelerated AMD PCnet adapter" drivers. They are virtual anyway. (or is threre?) And updating VMware (HP hardware server) drivers, i have yet to see, how do i do that.

Windows updates: windows is up to date.

Now i will read the KB you suggested.
The Altiris version is 6.9 Build 430. And its about hundred nodes that this server is supporting.

Have a nice day.

Just a thought but you'd be

Just a thought but you'd be much better off using the E1000 drivers for VMware or better still the vmxnet2 (or 3 if using vSphere h/w version 7). You should be able to change the vNic by adding/changing a line or 2 in the vmx file. You'll need VMware tools to use the vmxnet drivers.
eg: ethernet0.virtualDev = "E1000"

Always good practise to keep the hardware's firmware up to date while VMware Update Manager can take care of ESX host updates

Hi agane, i have just checked

Hi agane, i have just checked the TCPIP.sys version on the Server 2003 where Altiris DS is installed and it's a newer version the the one that is described in this article. In the article they say that 5.2.3790.2617 is causing a problem, and that 5.2.3790.2709 will solve the problem. But my version is an 5.2.3790.3959.
That's abut it.

Have fun! :)

Nikolai, try these ideas

Try this Altiris KB:
https://kb.altiris.com/article.asp?article=37542&p=1

Which refers to this Microsoft KB:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942861

Try disabling TCP Chimney in the registry or, as MDouglas did several weeks ago, setting TCP Offload Engine to Disabled in the HP Network Control Panel, if you have one.

This can still be a "network" issue if it is trying to resolve itself against the host, even if that IP happens to be 127.0.0.1.

Good day Mclemson, Ok, i've

Good day Mclemson,

Ok, i've just did the:

Start>Run>CMD:
Netsh int ip set chimney DISABLED
Ok.

(not registry editing yet)

Let's see what it does.

I've already seen this article actually. But wasnt sure if i have to try it. Because the SQL server and Altiris are on the same Windows 2003 virtual VMware machine.

Thank you for your help.

Hi agane,

I have taken some time to see if the error still comes up. And the error still comes back after a view days. Only difference is the console isnt giving an error anymore and isnt hanging. But the event viewer is still full of same errors.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.
Have a nice day!

I'm stumped

I'm stumped; others should weigh in, or perhaps you could submit a ticket to support.

Hate to ask, What version are

Hate to ask,
What version are you using.  We had this problem with DS 6.9 MP1.  It would do exactly the same thing every night from midnight to 12:15am.  After this time, you could reset the service and it would be fine again.  We upgraded to DS 6.9 SP4 and that seems to have fixed the issue.
