Altiris Deployment 6.9 and nVidia Optimus

Created: 17 Sep 2012 | 2 comments

Hi there,

I just struggled on a Problem with a Dell Precision M4700 with nVidia Optimus technologie and the Altiris 6.9 WinPE Environment.

As 6.9 is using WinPE 2.0 (Vista) you cannot boot into the WinPE Environment if the Optimus stuff is enabled. You have to disable it in the BIOS, install your computer and turn in back on. Depending on your driver injection method, you have to install the Intel graphic drivers as well.

“Windows is loading files…” will never finish when Optimus is enabled.

Cheers,

Zebbelin

What SP are you on?  I found some issues with imaging in 6.9 SP3 where it would just hang when Ghost loads, I found that once I upgarded my DS to SP5 and updated my WinPE files accordingly, my problems went away with the M4700 machines.

Hi,

Sorry I forgot this. I´m on SP4.

As I said "Windows is loading files..." never finishes, so I think it doesn´t matter what image tool you are using. WinPE seems to be the problem.

I might update within the next weeks to the latest version. If so, I´ll do another test and update this post.
