    Dears,

Is it normal that a PC can boot to the PXE provided automation OS only once?

Even if I force a PC to boot via network and select WinPE it will end in a light blue window.

To come around this I have to remove the particualr PC from the Altiris console. The next time I reboot and select WinPe booting to automation works fine.

Is this normal and is there a way to prevent this delete and re-add of computers?

JFI: In the PXE config properties the "Enable response to request form computer not in DS Databse" is checked and the boot option for unkown computer is "none". I configured to wait for 15 seconds before continung PXE process.

Would be great if someone could let me know about this.

    Regards

    M.

In the meantime I tested all settings in the PXE config tool in tab DS.

All the time the machine does not boot to WinPE until it is removed from the DS console.

Applying a regular license does not fix the issue. I get to the PXE boot menue and after selecting WinPE booting to automation is stucked at the blue screen ( not BSOD :-)

Boot options are configured using the PXE Configuration utility (the black gear in the console).

It's typical to have NEW computers boot to PXE and wait.  Existing computers should be able to boot to PXE and then reboot to production if there is no working waiting for them.

    Hello,

    Thank you for the information.

The existing computer is booting to PXE and I see the boot menue.

But in case the WinPE is selected, it won't start downloading the WinPE boot files.

If the same computer is removed from Altiris console it is possible to boot to WinPE again.

In our former Altiris this was never the case???

I have seen this before.  Check your .\Express\PXE\Images\MenuOption162\X64 (This is our WinPE 4 folder) for the pxeboot.bcd file.  It probably does not exist, but if it does, it is probably corrupt.  Replace that file and the light blue screen issue will be fixed.

    Thanks for the hint.

Can you tell me where to get a new pxebootbcd file ?

I searched my whole disk and could not find another one.

Here is a copy.  Please rename the old file and just leave it in the folder so that you can restore it if this doesn't help.

    Hope it does.

    Hello,

Thank you very much for providing the file to me.

In the meantime I found the solution for my setup. It looks like it is something coming from past and already mentioned in TECH40825. In my setup for the primary key lookup the serial was selected only. Today I enabled MAC as second primary lookup key and I can boot to the WinPE without the so far encountered problems.

Anyhow thanks for the help of you all.

    Regards
