Hi John,
The issue here is that there is no native mechanism to get the trigger actions to auto-repeat. The product is designed only to execute triggered actions on threshold crossing.
This means (sadly) there is no quick fix for this requirement.
There were two routes forward (as I saw it),
- Have an automation rule which on a schedule hunted down still active alerts and enumerated the triggered actions. From this list of triggered actions, re-execute them.
- Have an automation rule which on a schedule hunted down still active alerts and emailed their status.
The first option would have been nice, but required a few extra automation pieces than I currently had in my arsenal. I'm guessing the end result would have been a vbscript to build a array of tasks associated with outstanding alerts (using a SQL call) and then perhaps use the ASDK to fire off those tasks again.
That was going to be a fair bit of work... so as a result I went for option 2. This used SQL to identify the outstanding alerts and then use the data to re-create the alert emails.
My article is indeed a fudge, but until this functionality comes into the product natively I can't see a better way round it.
Kind Regards,
Ian./
