Altiris NS/SEP Integration reporting

clwoody's picture

Hi there,

I have SEP integrated into our NS environment. Thats working all fine and i am using package servers to deploy the SEP client to remote offices.

I am quite new to NS but cant seem to see any way to see what progress installations are at?

is this possible?

Thanks.

The actual software install task will show the progress

If you go the actual task, and look at the targeted systems, it will show which ones were succesfull. There are also some predefined filters, 1 who shows all systems with a SEP agent and 1 which shows all systems without a SEP agent. And I think there are some reports under the Reports TAB.

Hi, thanks for response. I

Hi, thanks for response. I can see under View > Tasks > SW Management > SW Delivery > Windows > Software Delivery Tasks, jobs that have been run in past. I cant see anything regarding SEP installation. I must be going mad!....

Can you give me anymore directions?

Thanks.

SW Delivery or Task Management?

Are you using the pre-configured SW Delivery jobs to roll out the SEP Clients or did you create Tasks to roll out using the Task server?

check status

I dont' have an NS in front of me that has the SEP Integration Component installed, but if you go to the SWD job, look to see if there is a "status" tab.  That would give you some diifferent options for viewing how the rollout is progressing.  Since these are SWD jobs, there isn't really a "real-time" view.  The other place you could see the status is if you look at the SW Delivery dashboard to get an overview of all of your SWD jobs.

If you're looking for something more real-time, then you could use Task Server to create a Task to do your SEP rollout.  Unfortunately, you can't "see" the pre-defined SEP packages from Tasks, but you can recreate them fairly easily by using the same options you see in the pre-defined packages.

HTH!

Reports

Ok, go to Reports - Symantec Endpoint Protection Management, there are the 2 reports you are looking for:
Computers on which Symantec Endpoint Protection Client rollout is successful
Computers on which Symantec Endpoint Protection Client rollout Task has failed

Let me know if this solves your question,

Hi Rob, i can see some

Hi Rob, i can see some predefined reports and i can see which machines have SEP and ones that have not. What i was hoping to see was some kind of uptodate progress indicator when i am pushing out SEP to say 20 clients at a time. This what i have.... Thanks again.

Look at this

Ok, Look at this screenshot, its under Manage Jobs and Tasks.
1st you have to create your SEP Install package with the SEP Management Console and define all your options.
Then Open up the Symantec Management Console and under home go to the quick start for SEP, there is a wizzard to create the deployment task.
Then under Manage - Job and Tasks, you will see your newly created Deployment Task, Right under the Task Details page you can see the Live status of the systems you selected for roll out.

Is that NS 7?

Is that NS 7?  I don't think that's an option in 6.

Rdutch12's picture

Yes, This is 7

Yes, it is NS 7 with the lastest SEP integration, mmm..youre right, looking at his screenshot, shows collections instead of filters.
Colin, are you using the NS for anything else? Which solutions are installed now?

Hi Guys, i am using NS 6.5

I guess thats why i'm not seeing your options Rob. We certainly use NS for other things mainly for software inventory and software installs.

The way i am pushing out the SEP client is via View > Solutions > SEP and then selecting 'Install Symantec 32 Bit Client'.

For example yesterday i pushed out SEP using this method to about 10 clients machines; i have absolutely no idea if they worked etc as i cant see progress anywhere!

Then i have an option to imagebrowser image
