I would like to remove/unassign Package Server role without deleting package store. I do not have space to copy all packages to different location on the server and do not want to replicate packages again to save network bandwidth. Is there any way to do so ? I found article describing to stop SMP agent service and copy packages to new location but due to limited space on local hard drive this will not work for me.

    Thanks

To just reinstall the PS and TS services? Is this a Site Server or the NS itself?

thanks for response. Goal is to uninstall Site Server (PS/TS) and keep all the packages on server.Site server is not on NS , it is seperate box.

but you no longer want it to be the site server? You could always just try sharing it out as a different share name. That way when the SMP tries to remove all the associated items, it can't remove a non Symantec share, so they should stay.

Packages will be reused later on when we migrate from Altiris 7 to 7.1 but this will take few months. In the meantime i wanted to unassign Site Server on Win2K8 box. So in the nutshell , i should stop services and change the share name to something else and unassign PS/TS role. Is this correct?

I would try it ahead of time, but in theory (since this isn't a normal operational procedure) it should work. You other option would be to backup the Package Delivery folder to a USB storage drive and copy it back later.
