do you see ITMS 7.1 SP1a in SIM? (installation or upgrade to ITMS 7.1 SP1a is an official way to get Patch 7.1 SP1). You may need to click "Update now" in Settings window (opens when you click Settings button in main UI page) to make sure that you have the latest version of PL.

You may need to update SIM to the latest version (this won't update your solutions - just SIM).  Open SIM, click on "Settings", and make sure you have a recent products xml file (mine is dated 8/2, btw).  Click on "Update now" in the "Settings" form to see if there is an updated version.  Typically this resolves issues with the product listings display.

If all that is ok, go back to the SIM screen and click on "View and Install Updates".  Set both filter dropdown boxes to "None".  Alternatively you can set the first filter to "Product Type" and the second to "Solutions".

The platform (SMP) has to be upgraded to 7.1 SP1 before upgrading the solutions.  You can check the documentation central repository for release notes for patch and smp 7.1 here:

Upgrade the platform to 7.1 SP1 then update Patch Management Solution, either by selecting a Suite or selecting the specific Solution in SIM.

If it is not appearing in SIM, SIM may require an update or you may have a proxy issue needing resolution.

After applying the Patch SP1 update to one of my test servers late on the 8th, it removed 208 software update policies, 183 exclusions, all staged patches, PMImport files

The release notes state that incompatible items will be removed.  They do not make clear that most of what is set up is incompatible.

I advise against applying the update at this time unless you first run it in a fully-configured test environment.

The release notes do indicate that almost everything will not work.  It says packages, policies, and metadata from previous versions are not compatible with 7.1 SP1 or later.

"Software update packages, software update policies, and downloaded software updates metadata from previous versions of Patch Management Solution for Windows are not compatible with 7.1 SP1. After you upgrade to 7.1 SP1, you must run the clean-up task that removes incompatible data. A link to the clean-up task is available on the Import Patch Data for Windows page."

You're basicaly starting from scratch from you upgrade to SP1. You need to recreate all your Software Update Policies (or at least I did). The good news is that it's easier to run one-off system assessments and you can Adobe/Symantec now.
