Altiris Recovery Solution on NetApp/EMC NAS systems

Created: 14 Sep 2011 • Updated: 04 Jan 2012 | 1 comment
This issue has been solved. See solution.

In all previous versions, including 7.0, the release notes for Altiris Recovery Solution stated that:

Some NAS Devices are not supported as Raw storage locations The following NAS devices, which are Linux based, do not fully support Windows APIs and cannot be used as raw storage locations for Recovery Solution : HP Net App and EMC Celerra. Files in Use error when upgrading or repairing Recovery Solution Agent on Microsoft Vista
In 7.1 release notes this statement does not appear.
1. Does version 7.1 support HP, NetApp and EMC Celerra NAS systems?
2. Is Altiris Recovery Solution supported any more?

Hi Marek,

1. It is true that corresponding section has been removed from RS 7.1 Release Notes. The idea of the new Release Notes for 7.1 was to focus on upgrade instructions. At the same time as some of the NTFS calls are still not supported by the Linux based NAS/SAN devices the statement is still valid. Yes, it is not officually supported nor recommended for large RS server but you can still use that type of device for a smaller number of users. But in that case only Compaction thread of the Server Space Management job will be able to keep your storage growth under control. As sparse of the files will not be supported there.

2. RS may be supported at the moment depending on the version you are on. Supportability dates are reflected in the HOWTO21450 KB article.

Kind regards,
