  • 1.  Altiris service cannot start, logon failure

    hi,

    I changed my Altiris Administrator account password and now i am unable to run SMP(notification server) /Altiris service

    After checking out the forums, i have tried following but nothing worked for me ...

    1) Changed the IIS(App pool) settings

    2) ReConfiguring 'AppIdentity' registry key by using AeXConfig.exe

    3) Tried reconfiguring using SIM (it stops half way giving error (Configuration failed while configuring Services ...)

    ...

    Hope to get some suggestions,

    A critical error occured:

    Configuration failed while attempting : Configuring services ...

     

    and when i try starting Altiris Service it says

    Windows cannot start Altiris Service service on Local Computer.

    Error 1069: The service didnot start due to logon failure.

     

    If i like change the logon credentials of ALtiris Service from properties it starts running but ofcourse it doesnot solve my problem of starting the SMP.

    If it was used as the Application Identity but also the SQL Identity, be sure you have updated for SQL as well:

    Confirm you have used the correct steps for changing the App ID:

    I again came across the same problem ...

    For me only using AexConfig.exe and registering the new username and password worked ...

    but the problem was that my user name had space inbetween and i wasnt putting double quotes around it so somehow correct username was not being registered. Placing double quotes solved my problem.

    I guess the same could be the problem earlier.

    I'm glad the KB I linked helped.  You should reconfigure Altiris with an AppID that does not have a space.  You will run into issues in the future if you do not take the time to resolve this now.  Use an underscore, which is a valid character.  But keep it alphanumeric and avoid special characters such as $, (), {}, #, and so forth.
