Altirus Recovery Solution Agent

This issue has been solved. See solution.

I have several client computers that when a snapshot is started, it just stops and the Snapshot screen closes. In the Services, Altiris Recovery Solution Agent stops. This happens again and again. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. In the XP Pro System Log, it adds an entry 7034 that says: "The Altiris Recovery Solution Agent service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 2 time(s).

Background infromation is all computers are on a domain (about 220) with a dedicated Recovery server.

Thank you for your time.

What RS version and service

What RS version and service pack are you on?  Do these machines have any hidden partitions (sometimes called a "recovery partition")?  You may want to check for agent-side hotfixes.  RS 6.2 SP3 was released last fall so you may want to try upgrading to the current release also.  If not, here are the Hotfixes for RS 6.2 "Gold" (no Service Pack):

Hey Kyle, We installed SP3

Hey Kyle, We installed SP3 for the client and are in a bit of a mes now. Most of the clients will not register and very few snapshots have been taken. We are pretty much at a loss on this one. Re-installing the client does not work either. No error messages but I get the message "Altiris Recovery Agent is not registered. I have no option to register now. Any thoughts?

Did you upgrade

Did you upgrade the RS cluster and RS servers before upgrading the clients?  On the Servers tab of the cluster properties, does it show that the server is Running?

Are your licenses and AUP in compliance (not exceeded and not expired)?  You can check this in the Licensing node on the Configuration tab on the NS.

Thanks,
Kyle

Ruth, I would try running a

Ruth,
I would try running a CHKDSK /F on the machine's drive.  Also to be clear you have uninstalled/rebooted/reinstalled the RS Agent?

Also for everyone, what sort

Also for everyone, what sort of anti-virus are you running, and/or any disk encryption software?  Try running FileMon (www.sysinternals.com) while the snapshot is running and see if we can capture the last file the agent touches before crashing.

Thanks,
Kyle

Hi Ron, Whatever happened

Hi Ron,
Whatever happened with this?  Did you get things working again?  What was the root cause?

Thanks,
