My company is currently going through the SD7 installation. We were HEAT based moving to SD7. We encountered issue due to mixed signals if you can run SD7 in a VM environment. The final answer is YES you can and it is supported. The minimum amount of ram for the VM server is 16gb and we are running on Windows 2003 R2. We have run into some speed issues at first but a complete reinstall appears to eliminated this issue. Are you performing the install yourself?

I hadn't officially heard yet that VM was supported. We installed ours in a VM and I knew all the PM's/SE's were running it in a virtual but up until recently, support wouldn't support it (within reason).

Page 45, 46, 47 and 48 of the implementation guide will answer your question. Particularly table 4-8 on page 47-48.

We could copy and paste the table, but reading the doc will do you a world of good.

We have installed SD7 and have been working through some of the problems of going into production.  The one key thing that we learned is that the workflows in SD7 consume a lot of ram.  We started with 16 GB and had performance issues.  I would suggest 32 GB of ram.  More is better in this case.  This is what we are running...

    IBM HS-22 7870AC1 Blade 300 GB HD, 32 GB Ram, 2 Xeon Quad Core 2 GHz Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2
    Enterprise Edition 64-bit

    Hi John,

That's quite a chunk of RAM. What is the throughput of your system? Is this all incidents?

    Kind Regards,
    Ian./

We increased the RAM to decrease the load time and funcionality of the workflows.  It made a huge difference.  I have talked to serveral different people from Symantec and they all said the more RAM you can give SD the better the preformance will be.

Our issue was the load times of the different screens when creating an incident.  We have a Gig connection between all the servers.  NS, SQL Server and SD.

KB Article 50197 contains some specific version links for the SQL and dotNet prerequisites. Servicedesk is very picky about the versions of some of the SQL and dotNet components. This article answered several questions for me.

The article mentions the 7.0 release, but in any case, it's good information.
