Altruis and Symantec Management Agent fail to open
Created: 06 Jul 2012 | 5 comments
So I am on my bosses computer, and at start-up the following two errors come up: "AeXNSAAgent needs to close" and then a windows error: Symantec Mamagement Agent needs to close"
I go to program files and try to run AeXNSAgent.exe from the Altiris file, with no results. I then try to open Symantec Management Agent, but it tells me I must first open Altruis Agent, and when I try to open AeXAgentActivate.exe, it says "Please ensure the Altiris Agent Service is running before trying to activate the UI"
This brings me back to Square one...

Is the Symantec Management Agent service started? What happens if you attempt to restart it? Are you your company's Altiris administrator?

When I try to start the Symantec Management Agent I get this error:
Heading: AeXClientActivate
Body: Please ensure the Altiris Agent service is running before attempting to activate the UI
As far as I know, this computer is the administrator computer. If not, let me know what steps to take to remedy the issue (as if I was on the administrator computer).
Also, all the other computers in the office load Management Agent and Altiris without any issues, It's just this one that started acting up this past week.
Clean uninstall and reinstall of the SMP agent on the client will solve the issue.
To do this,Go to the location:<Install directory>:program files\altiris\altiris agent
Execute the command : aexagentutil.exe /clean
To reinstall,Go to Action ->agent/plugins->push symantec management agent
Then select the computer and install the agent.
If the plugins install policies are turned on,they will get installed automatically,If not the plugins have to be installed manually.
I have CMS 7.2 SP1 with MP1 and am experiencing the same issue. Reinstalling the agent does not resolve the issue. The agent works fine for about 48 hours, then the issue recurs. It also stops responding and starts throwing errors in the log about failure to install plugins as well as tasks sent to the computer time out.
Contacting our support folks to see what's up. If I find a resolution I can share I will.
